방송심의 제재 언어 사용에 대한 시청자 인식 연구: 프로그램 장르와 인구사회학적 요인을 중심으로

본 연구는 방송언어의 중요성을 고려하여 방송심의의 주요 제재 언어(비속어/언어/신조어/축약어, 외국어/외래어, 고성/고함, 선정적 언어, 폭력적 언어, 차별적 언어) 사용에 관한 시청자 인식을 조사하였다. 방송 프로그램 장르와 인구사회학적 요인(성, 연령, 학력, 거주 지역)별 인식 차이를 살펴보기 위한 설문조사는 온라인 조사 전문기관을 통해 수행되었고 지역, 연령, 성별로 비례 할당 표집된 1,000명의 설문조사 결과를 대상으로 최종 분석이 이뤄졌다. 분석 결과에 의하면, 방송심의 제재 언어 사용에 대한 인식은 프로그램 장르별로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 시청자들은 전반적으로 연예오락, 드라마, 시사교양, 뉴스 프로그램 순으로 제재 언어 사용이 많은 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 특히, 응답자들은 분석된 거의 모든 장르에서 ‘외국어/외래어’ 사용이 가장 빈번하다고 생각하였다. 나아가 제재 언어 사용에 대한 시청자 인식도 인구사회학적 요인별로 유의미한 차이가 발견되었다. 인구사회학적 요인 가운데 성별을 제외하고 연령, 학력, 지역 변수는 방송심의 제재 언어 사용에 대한 시청자 인식을 효과적으로 설명하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구 결과는 방송심의의 기본원칙인 사회적 통념을 파악하기 위해서는 인구사회학적 요인과 프로그램 장르별 접근이 중요함을 주장하고 있다. 특히, 제재 언어 사용에 대한 시청자 인식이 개인별 특성에 따라 차이가 있다는 점을 고려하여 방송심의 과정에서 이를 해소하기 위한 정책적, 실무적 노력이 요구된다.
Abstract
This study was accomplished to understand audiences’ perception on the six languages subject to broadcast deliberation, based on demographic and sociological factors(gender, age, education, area of residence) and the four program genres. The survey was conducted online to get the 1,000 audience data. The survey participants were proportionally chosen by age, gender, and area of residence. Research results indicated that the program genre and demographic and sociological factors were significant variables in figuring out the difference of audience perception on the problematic words subject to broadcast deliberation. Viewers were generally aware of the languages subject to broadcast deliberation in the order of entertainment, drama, current events & educational program, and news program. In particular, respondents showed a tendency to recognize that the problem of using 'foreign language was the most serious in the four genres. Furthermore, it was found that the viewers' perception of the languages subject to broadcast deliberation could be explained in terms of demographic and sociological factor. Among demographic factors, age, education, and area of residence variables, excluding gender, effectively explained the difference of viewers' perception on the languages subject to broadcast deliberation. Therefore, this study suggests that demographic factors and program genre oriented approaches are important in order to grasp the people’s thoughts on the languages subject to broadcast deliberation. In addition, it suggests that a policy effort is also needed to bridge the gap in viewer perception.
