한계상황으로서의 죽음의식이 삶에 미치는 영향과 의미 -야스퍼스 철학을 중심으로-

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is for the explanation of Jasper’s view of death. In particular, the greatest reason this paper pays a great deal of attention to Jasper’s philosophy is because it concentrates on the diverse behaviors humans display when confronted by death, and doesn’t adhere to the general and existentially defined concept towards death unlike other existential philosophers. He painstakingly analyzes where the basis of the chances of immortal freedom stand in a human that cannot destroy even death. Jasper, who defines death as a critical situation (Grenzsituation) that is inevitable in human existence, proposes two types of behaviors humans portray when confronted by death. First, one can end death in vain, and second, one can take the opportunity to experience the unconstrained bind between life and death. Ultimately, one’s comprehension and interpretation of death completely changes based on one’s sense of death and what kind of behaviors one depicts. Therefore, one’s behavior towards death changes through life, one’s sense of death as well as one’s oneself together changes in this regard. As it is in reality, death is not a biological end, but one’s acceptance within one’s existent historicity.
