Abstract
In this essay, I try to describe how Nepalese marriage immigrant women in South Korea suffer from nationalism and gender inequality included in Nepalese and Korean citizenship system by focusing on the aspect that their citizenship has been reconstructed between native and resident societies. Citizenship is a concept that deals with the relationship between the individual and the state. Nepalese society requires citizen to have single citizenship centered on nationalism while Korean society has been pursuing multi-cultural citizenship due to the recent increase of marriage migration and labor migration. The Nepalese marriage immigrants want to have dual citizenship including Korean and Nepalese nationalities because they have hybrid identity between the two societies. Despite the institutional differences between the two societies, the marriage migrant woman retains both the Nepalese and Korean nationalities. It implies that they simply comply with the national citizenship law in choosing their nationalities because they have trans-national identity. From the perspective of global migration, it will be desirable if they have dual citizenship between native and resident countries.
