Abstract
This study examines how Vietnam is represented in three high school world history textbooks published under the 2022 revised national curriculum in South Korea. In world history education, Southeast Asia - particularly Vietnam - continues to be portrayed peripherally within a Western-centered chronological framework. As a result, there are notable limitations in the amount of content, thematic scope, and use of visual materials. This paper analyzes Vietnam-related content by unit in each textbook, focusing on issues such as the omission of historical context, inconsistencies in terminology, and inaccuracies in maps and timelines. The findings reveal that Vietnam is often depicted merely as a passive subject of imperial aggression or subordinated within Chinese and Japanese historical narratives. Additionally, the inconsistent use of Vietnamese native terms and Sino-Korean transcriptions for names and titles may confuse students. Visual materials such as maps and timelines also fall short in conveying Vietnam’s historical developments accurately.
