Abstract

As the types of disasters worldwide become more complex and diversified, the humanitarian crisis is intensifying. In International Development and Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance, the role of Institutions of the European Union becomes crucial. This study attempts to analyze the humanitarian contribution of the European Union to the international community by focusing on the following two aspects. First, the research discusses the contribution of the European Union to the Responsibility to Protect (R2P). Second, the paper explores the system and the mechanism of the EU's humanitarian assistance. The research specifically focuses on humanitarian issues in Southeast Asia with a specific focus on Myanmar. The humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, such as the controversy over R2P sparked by the Cyclone Nargis crisis, struck Myanmar in 2008. Furthermore, the Rohingya crisis and the most recent military coup in February 2021 provide a significant challenge for the European Union and the international community to respond to a humanitarian crisis.
