Abstract
This paper aimed at analysing the relationship between capital flow and global migration, which has been accelerated in the era of globalisation and regionalisation. In this paper, the most popular FDI host countries were selected in particular in order to examine how regional configuration of FDI affects the migration flow. This study concluded that fast flow of capital can incur the influx of labour migration and that FDI concentration functions as an independent inducing factor of immigration as the regions that receive FDI become a centre that attracts labour. In order to prove the hypothesis, this study examined the influx of FDIs in the EU member states and the migration trends of the most popular FDI destinations. Also, the immigrant composition of EU15, EU10 and EU2 were analysed. Then their incoming and outgoing trends of migrants were investigated. For the detailed analysis, two groups of four countries were taken for example: a group of the Czech, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland were taken as the examples of FDI host countries; and the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium were selected as ‘centre’. In selecting the latter four countries as the immigration destinations, the main reason can be attributed to economic opportunities immigrants may seek for. This research has some limitations for the following reasons: as the free movement of capital and labour preconditions the establishment of internal market, the aforementioned hypothesis cannot be applied to the regions other than the EU - such as Northeast Asia. This study simply draws out some implications for further speculations based on the statistics on FDI flows among Korea, China and Japan, and migration flows within these countries.
