초록
In Korea, even if simultaneous interpretation(SI) issued for the main meeting, the speakers, message senders often prefer to use consecutive interpretation (CI) for the press conference that follows. There are three reasons for this. First, CI is preferred in order to ensure that the sender's message is understood and conveyed accurately; second, it is less expensive than SI; and third, if the interpretation has to be recorded for broadcast, it is easier to record. The less experience the interpreters have, the more inclined they are to prefer CI. The biggest burden for interpreters was that the receivers of the message, i. e., reporters often used the exact wording of the interpreter without adding any explanation, when delivering the message to the final consumers, that is the readers, viewers or listeners. It is important to ensure that students are exposed to the different formats in which interpreting can occur so that they can act accordingly.
