『方言類釋』의 ‘中州鄕語’ 어휘 연구

『方言類釋』은 다른 유해류 역학서와 달리 근대 표준중국어를 표제어로 수록하였고, 표제어 뒤에 '中州鄕語'라는 당시의 중국 지방방언 어휘까지 수록한 역학서이다. 본고에서는『方言類釋』의 '中州鄕語'에 수록된 방언 어휘의 특징을 살펴보고 방언 어휘에 반영된 지역문화상을 알아보았다.『方言類釋』의 '中州鄕語'는 모두 194개로, 粵方言, 湘方言, 晋方言, 吳方言 어휘 중 吳方言이 가장 많이 수록되었고 淸代 翟灏가 편찬한『通俗編』과 비교한 결과 吳方言 어휘가 다른 방언 어휘에 비해 훨씬 높은 일치성을 보였다. 『方言類釋』의 '中州鄕語'에 수록된 방언 어휘를 공시적˙통시적 관점으로 접근하였다. ‘白相’과 ‘孛相’, ‘薄相’은 동의어로서 異形詞 형태로 吳方言 지역에서 널리 사용되었던 것임을 알 수 있었다. 『方言類釋』의 '中州鄕語'에 수록된 방언 어휘에 반영된 지역문화도 알아보았다. 『方言類釋』의 罵辱類에 수록된 '獠'는 '사냥하다'의 의미를 지니지만 吳方言 지역에서는 '천한 남녀를 욕하는 말(斥男女之賤者)'로 사용하고 있어 吳方言 지역의 독특한 욕설 문화를 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
Unlike other lexicographical works, 『Bang-eonyuseok』 includes modern standard Chinese as the headwords and also incorporates the local dialect vocabulary of that time under the term ‘Jungjuhyang-eo’. In this study, we examined the characteristics of the dialect vocabulary included in the ‘Jungjuhyang-eo’ of 『Bang-eonyuseok』 and explored the regional cultural aspects reflected in the dialect vocabulary. There are a total of 194 dialect terms in the ‘Jungjuhyang-eo’ of 『Bang-eonyuseok』 with the largest number of terms from the O dialect, compared to the Wol, Sang, and Jin dialects. When compared with 『Tongsu-bian』, compiled by Xinxian during the Qing Dynasty, the O dialect vocabulary showed a much higher degree of consistency compared to other dialect vocabularies. The dialect vocabulary included in the ‘Jungjuhyang-eo’ of 『Bang-eonyuseok』 was approached from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives. It was found that ‘白相’ and ‘孛相’, ‘薄相’ are synonyms in the form of variant characters and were widely used in the O dialect region. We also explored the regional culture reflected in the dialect vocabulary included in the ‘Jungjuhyang-eo’ of 『Bang-eonyuseok』. For example, the term ‘獠’ in the category of insults, which generally means ‘to hunt,’ was used in the O dialect region to derogatorily refer to lowly men and women, revealing a unique aspect of the cursing culture in the O dialect region.
