본 연구는 한국인 중국어 학습자의 중국어 화제구조에 대한 이해와 수용도를 실험통사론적 방법을 통해 분석하였다. 실험 결과, 한국인 학습자는 중국어 화제구조의 유형에 따라 다른 습득 정도를 보였다. 한국인 학습자의 L2 숙련도는 화제구조의 수용성에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치지는 않았다. 다만 숙련도에 따른 유형별 경향성은 미세하게 관찰되었다. 이상의 결과는 다음의 사실을 시사한다. 한국어는 중국어와 같은 화제 우세 언어로 화제구조를 보편적으로 사용한다. 따라서 한국인 학습자는 L2 숙련도와 관계없이 기본적으로 화제구조의 수용과 습득이 용이하다. 그러나 그렇다고 해서 모든 형태의 화제구조를 다 쉽게 습득하는 것은 아니다. 화제의 통사적, 의미적 관계와 명시성에 따라 쉽게 수용하는 유형이 있는 반면, 그렇지 못하는 유형도 존재한다. 이러한 유형에 따른 수용성의 차이는 L2 숙련도와 관계없이 유사한 경향을 나타내며, 심지어 중국어 모어 화자에서도 비슷한 경향성이 관찰되었다. 이는 화제구조의 수용과 습득에 있어서 언어보편적인 인지과정과 경향성이 존재함을 보여준다. 본 연구에서 밝힌 한국인 학습자의 화제구조 유형에 따른 수용성의 차이, 화제구조를 인지하고 습득하는데 있어 필요로 하는 언어보편적 인지과정과 기제는 중국어 교육 분야에서 효과적으로 활용될 수 있을 뿐 아니라, 나아가 언어의 인지과정과 언어유형학 연구까지 확장될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study investigates Korean learners’ comprehension and acceptability of Chinese topic structures using an experimental syntactic approach. The results reveal that Korean learners exhibit varying levels of acquisition depending on the type of topic construction. Furthermore, no significant correlation was found between learners’ L2 proficiency and their acceptability judgments of topic structures. These findings suggest that Korean, like Chinese, is a topic-prominent language in which topic constructions are used widely. Accordingly, Korean learners appear to possess a fundamental familiarity with topic structures, regardless of their L2 proficiency level. However, not all topic constructions are equally acceptable; Acceptability is influenced by the degree to which the syntactic and semantic relationship between the topic and the comment is explicitly marked. Such variation in acceptability was consistently observed across different proficiency levels, and even among native Chinese speakers. These findings indicate that universal cognitive mechanisms and tendencies underlie the acceptability and acquisition of topic structures.
