Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the Sjoelen program on physical function and brainwave changes in older adults with mild cognitive impairment. A total of 74 older adults individuals diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n = 36) or a control group (n = 38). Baseline homogeneity between the groups was assessed using an independent samples t-test with SPSS version 23.0, and differences in physical function and EEG outcomes before and after the intervention were analyzed using paired samples t-tests. The results showed that, in terms of physical function (assessed using the MAND test), the experimental group demonstrated statistically significant improvements in fine motor skills, gross motor skills, total muscle score, persistent coordination (PC), kinesthetic integration (KI), and bilateral dexterity (BD). However, no significant difference was found in muscle power (MP). Regarding EEG outcomes, the experimental group showed significant changes in self-regulation index, basic rhythm index (left and right hemispheres), attention index (left and right hemispheres), activation index (left and right hemispheres), and interhemispheric balance. On the other hand, no significant differences were observed in the emotional index or activation index (left and right hemispheres). Finally, the overall brain index demonstrated statistically significant improvement in the experimental group.
