This paper studies on Liang Qichao’s exploration of new civilization through his Impressions of Travels in Europe. The second half of Liang’s account of his trip to Europe in fact on the necessity for and construction of a “Chinese self-conscious”. here, Liang addressed a more specific “we”, no longer assuming the voice of a universal “we” that bespeaks the human race as a whole. The central questions now are as a member of the international community. As he answered these questions, a genuine hopefulness changes the tone of the whole piece. He believed that at this turning point in human history China has been given a wonderful chance itself as a true “cosmopolitan nation”, re-energize its cultrual heritage, and fulfill a historic mission.
