Abstract
Recently, Korea pop music recording industry has suffered from a decrease in sales due to many external factors such as MP3 and new media. Accordingly a Star system has been paid attention by many record corporations. Our study focuses on the star cobranding-turning soloists into a group- in the music industry. Previous co-branding researches focus on product category fit, especially completeness among categories. However, stars are hedonic portfolio products(Moe and Fader, 2001) and star co-branding has a characteristics of being made by stars in the similar category. Our research shows that members with similar musical features, the similar genre and high familiarity can make co-branding more favorable. Moreover, it shows that the musical features are more important than other factors. Additionally, after making a group, the constituent member with low-awareness get more fans then one with high-awareness.
