Abstract
It is essential to provide systematic financial education from childhood through adolescence in order to develop adults with the necessary financial skills. Numerous financial education programs have been developed, but additional research is required to define their structure and evaluate their effectiveness. In this study, models for assessing the success of financial education were constructed, and the changes in participants' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors were assessed by evaluating data from students who had participated in intermediate Think Money financial education. First, the study discovered that students' objective and subjective financial knowledge increased following financial education. Their understanding of financial products has significantly increased. When comparing financial attitudes and subjective norms, it was discovered that time preference, money usage, and altruistic value had all improved. Third, although the response to self-reliance expenditure and savings after education was positive, the confidence to be able to save money on one's own decreased, and the actual goal setting, comprehensive planning, and actual calculations to achieve it could be relatively difficult for students. Fourth, financial education had a generally good effect on attitudes and actions about money. Fifth, the perception that “when you run out of pocket money, you can receive your next allowance early or borrow money from a friend” did not diminish. It will be important to explain borrowing, the dangers of friend-to-friend financial transactions, and the need for self-responsibility throughout education. Thus, along with establishing a clear understanding of borrowing, students also need to be informed about money transactions between friends, the various implications and risks of money transactions, and financial self-responsibility. Sixth, attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control positively affected behavior, and behavioral purpose statistically affected dependent variables. Moreover, it was demonstrated that behavioral purpose mediates the relationship between financial conduct, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, and that attitude directly influences financial behavior. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that the effectiveness of different financial education programs on the market will be tested, and systematic efforts will be made to create effective financial education programs and content.
