본고는 『驪江錄』을 중심으로 신광수의 시 세계를 살펴보았다. 『『여강록』은 신광수가 50세 때 처음으로 영릉 참봉에 제수되어 3년간 봉직하며 기록한 시집이다. 이는 신광수가 효종 능참봉으로 근무하는 동안 겪었던 시인으로서의 감회나 교유관계 등을 알아보는데 중요한 자료이다․ 신광수는 성정의 바름을 중시하고 세교에 도움이 있어야 한다는 시관을 견지하였다. 신광수는 情과 경물이 접촉하면 자연스럽게 마음이 감동하게 된다고 설명하면서 작시 행위에 대해 천리가 유행하는 일 중 하나라고 설파했다. 『『여강록』에 나타난 시정을 보면 신광수는 50세가 되어서야 생계 수단으로 미관말직에 임명되어 나가지만 오히려 독서와 몸을 기를 수 있다고 즐거워하였다. 이러한 신광수의 태도는 朝隱이나 官隱의 성격이 있었다. 신광수의 시에는 효종의 북벌 정신을 본받아 청나라를 배척하는 사상이 드러나 있었다. 존화양이의 사상 속에서 신광수는 시를 통해 청나라 연호를 사용하는 현실을 은근히 비판하였다. 또한 그의 시에는 여주의 근무지에서 겪는 외로움과 그리움을 고향에 있는 가족을 생각하면서 달래는 심정이 나타나 있었다. 歲暮나 正初에 신광수가 상상을 통해 가족들의 얼굴을 그리면서 시름을 달래는 모습에 자상한 그의 인간미가 잘 드러나고 있었다. 신광수는 知己인 정범조와 함께 여강을 유람하면서 술과 시로 교유하였다. 이때의 작품에는 정경과 감흥을 잘 배합되어 있고 그의 진솔하면서 꼿꼿한 인간적 면모가 드러나 있었다. 이처럼 『『여강록』은 신광수의 인생에 있어서 가장 행복했던 시절에 지은 작품이다. 이 작품들은 세속적인 부귀를 추구하는 詩情이 전혀 나타나 있지 않았으며, 오직 소박하게 가족을 걱정하고 친구와 우정을 다지며, 의리에 입각한 선비의식이 잘 나타나 있었다. 평생 동안 세속에 물들지 않고 꼿꼿하게 살아갔던 신광수의 맑은 정신이 詩에 그대로 표현되어 있어서 俗態가 전혀 없었다.
Abstract
This paper examines the poetic world of Shin Gwangsu with the focus on Yeo-gang-rok (驪江錄). Yeo-gang-rok is a poetry collection recorded by Shin Gwangsu during his three years of working as the Yeong-reung-cham-bong for the first time at the age of 50. It is an important material which allows us to investigate the troubles and sentiments Shin Gwangsu had when working as the Yeong-reung-cham-bong. The poetic perspective of Shin Gwangsu emphasizes the importance of the rightness of character and suggests that it should help in building relationships. Shin Gwangsu, who was highly positive of engaging in poetry, explained that the heart is naturally moved when emotion(情) and material objects come into contact. He described this as one of the phenomena that occurs in the course of life. Analyzing the poetry in Yeo-gang-rok, we reveal that Shin Gwangsu found joy in being able to read and improve his physical health as he started working for the first time in the age of 50 in a low administrative position. This can be identified as Shin Gwangsu having the chracteristics of submerging himself in official duties and responsibilities (朝隱 or 官隱). Shin Kwang-soo, inspired by the spirit of King Hyojong's northern expeditions, had a spirit of rejecting the Qing dynasty. Under the ideology of jon-hwa-yang-yi (respect Ming and reject Qing), Shin Gwangsu subtly criticized the reality of having to use the era designations of Qing. In addition, his poetry shows the loneliness and longing for his family back at home while working at his post in Yeoju. The depiction of Shin Gwangsu imagining the faces of his family and seeking comfort during the year-end and new year portrays his compassionate humanity. Shin Gwangsu engaged through drinks and poetry with his close friend Jeong Beomjo as they travelled along the Yeo river. The poetry during this time displayed a sincere blend of poetic sentiment and emotional resonance. With this regard, Yeo-gang-rok was a literary piece written during the happiest time of Shin Gwangsu's life. These works show no sign of pursuing worldly wealth and instead are focused on modest concerns for family, nurturing friendships, and embodying the Confucian ideals of loyalty. The clear spirit of Shin Gwang-su, who lived his entire life untainted by worldly concerns, is faithfully expressed in his poetry, which contains no hint of common vulgarities at all.
