Abstract

This paper is based on various records of Park Je-ga(1750-1805)'s communication with Chinese writers in four journey to Yanjing, this paper deals with the letter materials of Park Je-ga and Qing writers in Ho Jeo Jip. Ho Jeo Jip is a collection of Park Je-ga's friendship records for the Qing Dynasty, compiled by Park Je-ga's son Park Jang-am after his death, and contains 42 letters from 27 Park Je-ga and Qing Dynasty writers. Letters have the longest temporal background among the records of Ho Jeo Jip in that they can be exchanged before or after the journey to Yanjing. However, since Ho Jeo Jip collects and organizes all the records according to the person of exchange, not according to the time, it is not easy to recognize the time when each letter was exchanged and the context according to the original text alone. Accordingly, this paper organized the letter data from the Ho Jeo Jip in chronological order and reviewed the period based on four journey to Yanjing. Specifically, it was divided into seven letters exchanged before the first journey to Yanjing, 26 letters received by Park Je-ga until the third journey to Yanjing, and nine letters received by Park Je-ga after the fourth journey to Yanjing. In the letter before the journey to Yanjing, the rituals of Joseon and Qing writers who tried to strengthen mental exchanges without meeting each other were confirmed, and in the letters that were exchanged during the first to third journey to Yanjing, the actual friendship was established through gifts or face-to-face appointments. Finally, in the 4th journey to Yanjing and subsequent letters, the circumstances in which the reputation of the Park Je-ga increased in Yanjing and the affectionate friendship with a friend who had a deep relationship were confirmed. The data value of the letter in the Ho Jeo Jip can be summarized as follows. First, it is direct evidence of friendly exchanges between Korean and Chinese intellectuals in the 18th century. Second, it is the longest material among the materials of communication between the Park Je-ga and the Qing Dynasty writers, and it intuitively shows the flow of communication and the change in the way Qing writers view the Park Je-ga. Third, the circumstances and contexts of censorship and avoidance rampant in the Qing Dynasty at the time are clearly revealed. Fourth, it is meaningful that it is possible to estimate the application or answer of the Park Je-ga.
