Abstract

Theories and discourses on the network are addressed widely across multiple academic disciplines and various areas of practise. However, they are most discipline-based and so comprehensive and systematical overview and critical meta-discourses are yet rather limited. This paper makes efforts to critically review network theories and discourses. Based on these efforts, I believe, network discourses can be better and more firmly anchored to theoretic underpinnings. This will reduce the possibility of excessive optimism in network and also will increase the possibility of legitimate design on networking efforts. Especially, given the Korean situation where the network-based reform is a strong alternative to hierarchical domination, systematically and critically reviewed theories and discourses will serve as a faithful guide for understanding, initiating, or managing he network.
