한국 전자산업과 자동차산업 대기업의 글로벌 생산네트워크 비교연구

본 연구에서는 자동차산업과 전자산업 대기업의 해외투자와 글로벌 생산네트워크의 특성에 주목하여 두 산업 간 국내 생산에 대한 기여도의 차이가 발생하는 원인을 구명하고자 하였다. 주요 결과로는 첫째, 반도체와 휴대전화 조립업체의 해외 투자는 요소비용 절감을 목적으로 하는 수직적 FDI, 완성차 조립업체의 해외투자는 현지 시장개척을 목적으로 국내 조립공정을 현지에 복제하는 복제형 FDI이 지배적이다. 둘째, 휴대전화산업과 자동차산업에서는 조립업체와 부품업체의 동반진출이 활발하였는데, 휴대전화 부품업체에서는 해외에서 생산된 제품을 본국에 수입하는 역수입형 FDI, 자동차 부품업체에서는 중간재를 국내에서 공급하는 지점형 FDI가 많았다. 셋째, 휴대전화산업에서는 생산의 글로벌화가 급속히 진전되는 가운데 요소비용 절감을 목적으로 한 해외 투자로 해외 생산과 국내 생산의 대체 관계가 강화된 반면, 자동차산업에서는 현지 시장진출을 목적으로 한 해외 투자로 해외 생산과 국내 생산의 보완 관계가 형성된 것으로 파악된다. 이와 같은 차이는 생산공정 간 수직적 분할 · 재결합이 용이한 전자산업과 그렇지 못한 자동차산업의 기술적 특성 요인과 함께, 글로벌 생산네트워크를 주도하는 대기업의 상이한 글로벌화 전략요인이 반영된 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
This study intended to investigate the causes of the gap between gross production and value-added production in the automotive industry and electronics industry, focusing on the global production networks. The major empirical results are as follows. Firstly, foreign direct investment in the semiconductor and mobile phone assemblers are vertical FDI for the purpose of cost reduction, whereas that in the automobile assemblers is horizontal FDI for the purpose of access to local market. Secondly, the FDI in the mobile phone industry strengthened substitutive relationship between overseas production and domestic production and increased dependency for overseas production in the export of parts. Whereas, FDI in the automotive industry maintains complementary relationship between domestic production and overseas production and the dependency of domestic production in the export of parts was continued.
