청년들의 마음체제에 대한 질적 분석: 30대 싱글들의 불안을 중심으로

이 논문은 학술과 언론, 정책 담론에서 소외되어 왔던 30대 싱글들의 마음체제를이들이 처한 사회구조적 환경과의 관계 속에서 탐색하여 지금 ‘청년’세대가 처한다양한 위치성과 목소리를 드러내려는 목적에서 이루어졌다. 특히, 이 논문은 현재 청년이 처한 상황을 이해하기 위한 맥락으로 이들의 세대적 특성에 주목하는동시에 다양한 위치성과 삶의 결을 지닌 30대 싱글들의 이야기를 정치경제학적관점이나 복지학적 관점을 넘어 사회학적이고 문화인류학적 관점에서 이해하려고 시도했다. 이를 위해 전국적으로 78명의 30대 싱글을 대상으로 초점집단면접(Focus Group Interview)을 실행했고, 이 결과에서 드러난 이들의 내러티브를질적으로 분석했다. 연구 결과, 30대 싱글 청년들에게서 가시적/비가시적으로 가장 두드러지게 드러나는 마음체제는 불안이었다. 불안이라는 정서는 주로 이들이처한 삶의 조건, 세대적 특성, 사회문화적 환경과 연결되는 경우가 많았다. 연구 결과, 이런 30대 싱글들의 불안의 마음체제를 1) 서른의 무게: 청춘에서 불안정한 어른으로, 2) 핑퐁세대: 자기 욕망과 타인의 시선 사이, 3) 불안 출구 전략 : 자기 계발과 위로 등으로 범주화할 수 있었다. 이런 연구 결과에 기반을 두고 30대 싱글들의 마음체제가 우리 사회와 청년 정책에 주는 시사점을 논의했다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the mind system of singles in their 30s who have been alienated from academic, media, and policy discourse in relation to their social and structural environment, and to reveal the various positions and voices of the ‘young’ generation. In particular, this paper focuses on generational characteristics to understands the narratives of singles in their thirties with diverse positions and lives, from a sociological and cultural anthropological perspective, not from a political economic or welfare perspective. To this end, the narratives of those exposed by focus group interviews were qualitatively analyzed for 78 singles in their 30s nationwide. As a result of the study, the mind system among singles in their 30s was anxiety. The emotion of anxiety was often linked to the conditions of their lives, relationships, generational characteristics, and socioᐨcultural environment. The anxiety of singles in their 30s was analyzed by categorizing them into 1) weight of 30: youth to unstable adults 2) pingᐨpong generation: between selfᐨdesire and the gaze of others 3) strategy for exiting anxiety: selfᐨimprovement and selfᐨcomfort. Based on the results of this study, the implications of the mind system of singles in their 30s to Korean society and youth policy were discussed.
