시각적 복잡성 연구고찰 Ⅱ – 건축과 가로경관의 시각적 복잡성

본 연구는 시각적 복잡성과 관련된 문헌고찰을 통한 문제점을 도출한 ‘시각적 복잡성Ⅰ’과 연결되는 연구이다. 본 연구의 목적은 가로경관의 시각적 복잡성 영향요소를 도출하기 위한 연구 방향을 설정하는 것이다. 연구방법은 문헌고찰을 중심으로 하였으며, 특히 건축에서의 ‘컴플렉서티(Complexity)’의 개념은 번역서와 원서를비교분석하였다. 먼저 다양한 분야의 ‘컴플렉서티’의 개념, 건축에서의 혼돈되어 번역되고 있는 ‘컴플렉서티’의개념, 건축 장식과 또 다른 복잡성으로 번역되는 인트리커시, 현재 디자인코드에 녹아 있는 건축의 복잡성 요소, 그리고 건축구성과 복잡성의 관계를 논하였다. 가로경관의 시각적 복잡성에서는 ‘시각의 질’과 미학적 측면의 유형, 그리고 시각적 복잡성 연구에서 중요한 고든, 케빈, 레포포트의 연구를 살펴보았다. 이러한 과정을통해 시각적 복잡성은 시각적 물리량, 시각의 질, 시각적 구성이라는 세 가지 측면으로 접근해야 한다는 것을알 수 있었다. 이것은 일종의 질서체계라 할 수 있으며, 영향요소 도출의 방향도 이 질서체계를 따라야 한다. 따라서 적절한 시각적 복잡성은 이러한 세 가지 측면이 복합적으로 작용하여 질서와의 균형을 이루는 정도라할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구는 기존의 ‘0과 1’을 구성 요소로 하는 계량적 연구방법의 문제점을 개선할 수 있는 시각적 복잡성의 영향요소 연구의 방향을 설정할 수 있었던 것에 큰 의의가 있다. 선행연구의 대부분이 영향요소에 대한 규명 없이 시각적 물리량에만 집중했기 때문에 디자이너에게 유용하지 않았다. 향후 연구는 실제 가로공간에서의 영향요소를 규명하기 위한 분석틀을 시각적 물리량, 시각의 질, 시각적 구성별로 설정하는연구가 진행될 것이다.
Abstract
This study is related to the researcher's paper, 'Visual Complexity I'. The purpose of this study isto establish the research direction to derive the influence factors of visual complexity of thestreet landscape. Research methods were analyzed and compared the translation with theoriginal, discussed the complexities with a review of the literature. The contents of the study areas follows. First, the concept of complexity in various fields, 'complexity' in architecture,architectural decoration and intricacy. Second, the complexity of architecture that remains in thecurrent design code, and the relationship between architectural composition and complexity. Third, in the visual complexity of the street landscape, the types of 'visual quality' and aestheticaspects. Fourth, a related study of important scholars Gordon, Kevin, and Amos Repoport in thestudy of visual complexity. Through this process, the researchers found that visual complexityshould be approached in three aspects: visual physical quantity, visual quality, and visualcomposition. And it can be said that this is a kind of order system, and the direction of thederivation of influencing factor must follow this order system. Therefore, the appropriate visualcomplexity is a balance of these three aspects working together to form order. This study has agreat significance in that it was able to set the direction of the study of the influence factors ofthe visual complexity which can improve the problem of the quantitative research method usingthe existing '0 and 1'. Most of the previous studies were not useful to designers because theyconcentrated on visual quantities without identifying the influence factors. Future research will becarried out to set the analysis framework for identifying the influence factors in the actual spacebased on visual physical quantity, visual quality, and visual composition.
