이 연구는 행위자네트워크이론을 조형 연구에서 활용하여, 문화 연구의 조형적 연구 역량과 더불어 조형 연구의융합적 연구 역량을 함께 고양하는 방안을 살펴본다. 행위자네트워크이론은, 오늘날 인간의 다양한 활동과 기억, 경험과 정체성 형성에 영향을 미치는 비인간 행위자로서의 여러 사물들과 인간의 복합적인 관계를 관찰하고분석하는 사회과학 및 과학기술학 분야에서 비교적 최근에 각광받기 시작한 연구 이론으로, 과학·기술에 관한지식이 복잡한 현대사회에서 어떻게 활용되는지를 탐구하는 데 많은 도움을 준다는 평가를 얻고 있다. 이 연구는 이러한 행위자네트워크이론을 조형 연구에 활용함으로써, 조형적 사고와 행위의 결과인 사물이 지니는 과학· 기술적 특성을 보다 능동적으로 사고할 수 있으며, 사물의 문화를 관찰하고 그 변화 양상을 분석하고 성찰하는능력을 높이는데 도움이 됨을 보였다. 이 과정에서 행위자네트워크이론을 소개하고, 행위자네트워크의 다양한특성들 중에서 융합적 조형 연구에 유효하다고 판단되는 네 가지를 이 연구의 목적에 맞춰 정리했다. 그런 다음, 새로운 고찰 가능성 제시의 수단으로써, 사회적 활동으로서의 어떠한 조형 행위의 결과인 인공사물과 그것이 지니는 과학·기술과의 관계를 드러내는 사례들을 행위자네트워크이론의 관점으로 분석했다. 이를 통해, 조형의 결과와 과정, 그 객체와 주체의 관계 설정에 대한 논의가 뚜렷한 구분 자체가 모호한 인간과 비인간 행위자들의 네트워크를 따르는 상호구성적 개념에 속해 있음을 보였다. 결론에서는, 융합형 조형 연구의 방법론으로서의 행위자네트워크이론이 갖는 장단점을 분석함과 아울러, 이 연구가 갖는 의의를 다루며 사물의 문화 및 조형연구에서 관습적으로 활용되는 이분법적 사고의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 방안을 제시했다.
Abstract
This study examines the method of promoting the convergence design research characteristics by combining ANT with design research. ANT is influential theory in the field of Social Sciences and STS observing and analyzing the complex relationship of human beings with various artifacts as non-human actors making human identities today. It has been evaluated that it helps to grasp the co-constructive relationships between human being and artifacts that was not exposed according to existing ways of thinking. This study suggests that the using ANT as a design research methodology can help to consider the scientific and technological context as results of design thinking and performances, to enhance the ability to observe and reflect on the culture of artifacts, and the ability of thinking socio-political characteristics of artifacts. Therefore, this research presents another interdisciplinary perspective that explores the cultural and historical performativity and epistemology of artifacts through design research. To do this, this paper first introduces ANT and compiles the characteristics into four contexts associated with design studies. Then, this research analyzes some cases showing the relationship between the artifacts and science & technology, which can be further refined in terms of ANT. Thus, this study shows that the results and processes of design, and the discussion of the relationship between objects and subjects of them, belong to a co-constructive concept that follows a networks of human and non-human actors, not separate or unified derivatives. In conclusion, dis/advantages of ANT as a methodology of interdisciplinary design research and the implications of this study are discussed.
