그래픽 노블을 통한 자서전적 기록과 페미니즘의 발현 -마르잔 사트라피의 <페르세폴리스>를 중심으로-

본 연구의 목적은 코믹스 매체, 그 중에서도 그래픽 노블의 표현적 특성과 자서전적 성격의 텍스트가결합하여 생성하는 역사적 이슈와 그것의 사회적 파장, 그리고 개인사 기록으로서의 그래픽 노블의 기능을 연구 분석하는 것이다. 연구의 방법으로는 첫째, 자서전적 성격의 그래픽 노블이 가지고 있는 사실의 재구성과 시각적 프레이밍의 특징을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 자서전적 그래픽 노블의 경계와 사회적기능을 연구하였다. 셋째, 그래픽 노블을 통한 한 여성의 개인적 사회적 자아실현이 페미니즘으로 발현되는 과정을 살펴보았으며, 마지막으로 반복적인 거울이미지를 통한 주인공의 정체성 표현을 연구하였다. 이에 대한 사례연구로 마르잔 사트라피의 그래픽 노블 <페르세폴리스>를 채택하여 분석하였으며 이 작품이 가지고 있는 많은 가치 중에서도 자전적 콘텐츠와 그래픽 노블의 형식이 만들어낸 텍스트에 주목하여 앞으로의 그래픽 노블이 독립된 미디어 콘텐츠로서의 나아갈 방향을 재고하고자 하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자서전적 성격의 그래픽 노블이 가져야 할 가장 중요한 조건은 작가 개인의 사실적 경험을 근거로 한 스토리텔링이다. 둘째, 그래픽 노블 매체는 이미 이러한 개인적 경험을 소재로 역사, 이데올로기, 페미니즘과 같은 사회적 이슈를 발현할 수 있는 충분한 기능을갖추고 있다. 셋째, 자서전적 그래픽 노블은 코믹스의 형식을 가지고 있는 새로운 문학의 형태로 주목받고 있으며 일반적인 자서전과는 확연히 구분되는 효과로 점점 더 넓은 독자층을 확보할 수 있는 가능성을 가지고 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to study and analyze historical issues that combine the expressive characteristics of the comics media, especially graphic novels, with their social repercussions, and the function of graphic novels as personal history records. As the research methods, this study firstly investigated the distinct feature of graphic novel and how it reconstructs the facts with visual framing. Then the boundaries and social role of autobiographical graphic novel were also considered. Finally the paper examined how a woman’s personal social self-realization through graphic novel expressed as feminism, and studied the identity expression of the main character through repeated mirror images. The research adopted Marjane Satrapi’s <Persepolis> as a case study because of its value as a biographical document and the form of graphic novel so that the direction of graphic novel and its possibility as a media content could be discussed. As the result of the research, the paper indicated that the most important condition of this kind of medium is the storytelling based on the facts. Second, the medium of graphic novel could be a great container for presenting history, ideology and Feminism from the private experiences of one individual. Third, autobiographical graphic novel has been receiving attention as a new literature form, and it is distinguished from other biographical documents because of its unique structure. It is also obvious that this uniqueness has brought the possibility of broader number of the readers.
