정형과 비정형 신체의 경계를 침범하는 체액 -연구자의 회화 작품을 중심으로-

Abstract

This paper aims to pose a question about a stereotypes on the body that is widespread in society and culture through the researcher’s artwork that uses the body as one of the major themes and find an answer. The paper analyzes the researcher’s painting series from 2018 to 2021 and proposes esthetical evidence based on humanities and studies on former artists. The researcher quotes the study conducted by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari who had analyzed the body through selection-break(prélèvement-coupure) to analyze cut-off body parts in the paintings. On top of that, the concept of body fluids suggested by Julia Kristeva and Elizabeth Grosz was introduced to lay a foundation to build a framework for esthetic interpretation on body fluids which dissolve a boundary between the standard and atypical. Body fluids in the researcher’s paintings are one of the main symbols along with the body. Expression of paints which flow through the wall and the paper, thereby covering the surface was introduced to explore the sculptural element of the fluids and they have been presented as the independent concept rather than a dependent part of the body. Furthermore, the paper broadens the awareness of the body by featuring analysis on artwork of Eva Hesse, Kiki Smith and Cindy Sherman and comparison of these works with the researcher’s paintings. It is noteworthy that this paper suggests a fresh viewpoint as the atypical body that has been vividly presented in the paintings was designated as a place of resistance and provides an opportunity to think out of the box by relying on the artistic point of view. In other words, this research reverses and contemplates on a single model of body that has been forced by society and offers a new way of thinking that is not strained by body stereotypes, through artwork that presents atypical bodyforms and body fluids.
