피터 브뤼헬의 혼합기법 작품 모사를 통한 교육적 효과 연구 -<바벨탑 (1563)>작품을 중심으로-

본 연구는 피터 브뤼헬의 1563년 작품 <바벨탑>에서 나타나는 표현성과 관련된 회화기법을 분석, 연구하는 데 그 목적을 둔다. 또한, 그의 회화표현을 효과적으로 분석하기 위해 작품 모사를 진행하며그 과정에서 나타나는 교육적 효과를 제시하고자 한다. 피터 브뤼헬은 16세기 북유럽의 플랑드르지역, 안트베르펜에서 활동했으며 히에로니무스 보쉬와 함께 15세기 플랑드르미술의 전성기를 이어 나간화가이다. 그의 작품에서 나타난 표현 기법은 15세기에 유행한 플랑드르 회화의 초기유화 기법과는다른 독특한 표현이 존재한다. 이것은 플랑드르에서 초기유화 기법이 정착하기 이전의 템페라 기법 중하나인 투클레인과 유화 기법의 혼합 표현이다. 이와 같은 표현기법은 플랑드르의 일반적인 회화에서볼 수 없는 독특한 표현으로 추정한다. 그러므로 본 연구는 이 표현기법으로 제작된 작품, <바벨탑> 의 분석과 모사를 통해 그의 회화기법을 재현하고자 한다. 그리고 이 과정은 템페라와 유화의 혼합기법 개념을 재인식하고 이 기법이 그의 표현성에 어떠한 영향을 끼쳤는가에 관한 연구이다. 연구방법은피터 브뤼헬의 작품을 분석한 보고서, 프라도 미술관의 <성 마틴 축일의 포도주>와 코닌클리크 연구소의 <베들레헴의 인구조사>를 선행연구로 분석한다. 그리고 이 분석을 통해 나타난 브뤼헬의 회화기법인 템페라와 유화, 이 두 가지의 혼합기법으로 <바벨탑> 작품 모사를 진행하며 이를 통해 물감의 재료적 특징과 기법, 그의 독자적인 표현성을 확인하는 것이다. 이와함께 이 과정에서 나타나는 회화 표현성에 대한 교육적 효과 분석을 언급하고자 한다. 모사 과정은 표현성 교육에서 화가의 표현성확인과 함께 새로운 표현을 연구하기 위한 밑바탕이 될 수 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 교육적 연구 과정을 진행함으로써 현대회화를 위한 다양한 표현 효과를 제시하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study aims to analyze and research the painting techniques related to expressiveness in Pieter Bruegel’s 1563 work <Tower of Babel>. Furthermore, it seeks to present the educational effects that emerge during the process of replicating the artwork for an effective analysis of his pictorial expression. Pieter Bruegel was an artist who continued the golden age of 15th-century Flemish art, alongside Hieronymus Bosch. He was active in Antwerp, a region of Flanders in Northern Europe, during the 16th century. The expression techniques manifested in his works exhibit a unique representation that differs from the early oil painting techniques popular in 15th-century Flemish paintings. This is a mixed expression of tuchlein, one of the tempera techniques before the early oil painting techniques were established in Flanders, and oil painting techniques. Such expression techniques are presumed to be a unique representation not seen in general Flemish paintings. Therefore, this study aims to reproduce his painting techniques through the analysis and replication of the artwork, <The Tower of Babel>, which was created using these expression techniques. And this process is a study on the re-recognition of the concept of mixed techniques of tempera and oil painting, and what impact this technique had on his expressiveness. The research method involves analyzing reports on Pieter Bruegel’s works, and conducting a preliminary analysis of <The Wine of Saint Martin’s Day> from the Prado Museum and <The Census at Bethlehem> from the KIK-IRPA. And through this study conducts a replication of the artwork ‘Tower of Babel’ using a mixed technique of tempera and oil painting, which are identified as the painting techniques of Bruegel through analysis. Through this process, we aim to verify the material characteristics of the paint and techniques, as well as his unique expressiveness. Along with this, we intend to discuss the analysis of the educational effects on the expressiveness in paintings that emerge in this process. The replication process can serve as a foundation for exploring new expressions in expressiveness education, along with verifying the artist’s expressiveness. This study aims to present various expression effects for modern paintings by conducting such educational research process.
