Abstract
This study aims to explore the representation of time in Video Installation Art, analyzing in depth the reconstruction and pluralistic representation of time. It investigates the various ways of representing time in video installation art, and how the concept of time, which is distinct from traditional art, is fused and expressed with the emergence of new technologies and exhibition methods. To this end, the works under study are selected from a variety of literature and sources and analyzed through case studies, focusing on artworks from the 1960s onwards. Specifically, this study identifies and discusses four ways of reconstructing time: narrative time, circular time, real-time, and remodeling time. These ways of representing time allow the viewer to experience the artwork simultaneously emotionally and rationally, and provide a variety of perspectives for multi-layered interpretation of video installations. Furthermore, by exploring the ways in which time is represented according to the characteristics of the medium, this study sheds new light on the ways in which video art and installation art reveal the complexity of time. The works referenced herein transcend a simple collection of illustrations. They necessitate a synchronicity between our sensory engagement with the screen and installation and our cognitive and emotional resonance with societal narratives, offering an opportunity to perceive the explicit or nuanced articulation of time embedded within the artworks.
