(연구배경 및 목적) 설치미술은 현대미술의 하나의 형태이며, 특정 공간에 작품을 설치하여 관람자들에게 새로운 경험을 제공하는 예술이다. 설치미술을 통해서 공간과 상호작용하고 그 자체를 공간으로 재해석과 확장 시키는 특성을 지니고 있다. 이는 기존의 평면적 미술의 작품과 달리, 공간적, 물리적, 심리적, 경험을 동시에 제공할 수 있다는 점에서 주목할 수 있다. 설치미술이 제공하는 공간 경험을 분석함으로써, 현대 사회에서 공간의 개념이 물리적 한계를 넘어 다양한 방식으로 소통하고 재구성하는 예술적 변화를 탐구하고자 한다. 따라서 미술과 공간의 상호작용을 심도 있게 이해하고 연구하는 것을 목적으로 하고자 한다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 설치미술이 지닌 경험적 특성과 표현을 통한 공간의 확장이 작품을 통해서 다양한 의미와 가치를 해석하고자 한다. 이러한 분석을 통하여 설치미술은 어떻게 새로운 예술의 경험을 창출하고 물리적인 공간의 경계를 넓혀가는지 알아가도록 한다. 연구는 주로 문헌적 고찰과 사례 연구를 통해 설치미술의 개념을 재정립하고, 작품을 통한 경험과 공간 확장 간의 관계성을 구체적으로 제시한다. 특히, 사례 분석을 통해 도출된 특성을 정리할 때, 경험의 차원(물리적, 감각적, 경험적)을 기준으로 하여 설치미술이 어떻게 공간과 상호작용하는지를 명확히 규명할 것이다. 선행연구 자료와 사례 분석을 통해 도출된 특성을 정리한 후, 설치미술이 만들어내는 경험이 공간과 만나 재구성되도록 하는 과정을 연구한다. 이를 통해 예술과 공간의 조화를 이루는 디자인 방향성을 제시한다. (결과) 설치미술은 감각을 통해 관람객이 작품과 공간에 몰입하고 상호작용하도록 유도한다. 이는 설치예술가가 설정한 재료와 작품의 주제, 환경에 따라 달라지며, 이를 통해 물리적, 감각적, 경험적으로 공간을 확장하는 과정을 분석하고 도출하여 예술과 공간의 관계를 재정립 한다. (결론) 설치미술은 설계된 공간 안에서 새로운 경험을 창출하여 기존 공간을 새로운 시각으로 재구성하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 이러한 과정에서 물리적 공간은 물론 감각적 경험도 확장되며, 관람자는 작품과의 상호작용을 통해 몰입감을 느낀다. 감각의 확장은 참여를 유도하고, 관람객이 설치미술에 더욱 깊이 있게 몰입할 수 있도록 한다. 앞으로 설치미술이 예술과 융합하여 다양한 공간과 감각을 어떻게 재구성 하는지에 대한 연구는 더욱 중요해질 것이다. 이러한 연구는 설치미술의 새로운 가능성을 제시하고, 예술과 공간 간의 관계를 더욱 풍부하게 탐구하는 데 기여할 것이다.
Abstract
(Background and Purpose) Installation art is a form of contemporary art that creates new experiences for viewers by installing artworks in a specific space. Installation art is characterized by interactions with space, reinterpretation, and expansion into space. Unlike conventional flat artworks, it can provide spatial, physical, psychological, and experiential experiences simultaneously. By analyzing the spatial experience provided by installation art, we aim to explore artistic changes in contemporary society, in which the concept of space is communicated and reconfigured in various ways beyond its physical limits. Therefore, this study aims to understand the interaction between art and space in depth. (Method) This study analyzes the experiential nature of installation art and the expansion of space through representation to interpret the various meanings and values in works. This analysis seeks to understand how installation art creates new artistic experiences and expands the boundaries of physical space. Through a literature review and case studies, this study redefines the concept of installation art and presents the relationship between the experience of artwork and the expansion of space. In particular, by organizing the characteristics derived from the case analysis, we clarify how installation art interacts with spaces. based on experience dimensions (physical, sensory, and experiential). After summarizing the characteristics derived from previous research and case analyses, we studied the process by which the experience created by installation art met and reconfigured the space. Thus, we propose a design direction that harmonizes art and space.(Results) Installation art invites viewers to immerse and interact with the work and space through their senses. This interaction depends on the materials, subject matter, and environment set by the artist; through this, the process of expanding the space physically, sensually, and experientially is analyzed and derived to redefine the relationship between art and space. (Conclusion) Installation art plays an important role in reimagining existing spaces by creating new experiences within them. In this process, the physical space and sensory experience are expanded, and the viewer is immersed through interactions with the artwork. The expansion of the sensation encourages participation and allows viewers to immerse themselves in the installation at a deeper level. In future, it will be important to study how installation art fuses with art to reconfigure various spaces and senses. Such research will open up new possibilities for installing art and contribute to a richer exploration of the relationship between art and space.
