Abstract

This study extracted types from the perspective of elements in the audience’s appreciationprocess of modern mobile art and examined their significance. The research method was toestablish a framework for analyzing elements in the appreciation process of mobile art based onthe summary of the appreciation process and elements of previous genres, and then to extractmajor element types by applying 134 works published over the past 16 years collected through aliterature review and to analyze their comprehensive significance. As a result, 24 types wereextracted, of which the main 6 types accounted for 72.3% of the total. The most common typewas ‘Indoor - Material Works - Augmented Reality, Independent Linear Interaction’, whichaccounted for 24.6% of the total, and this was the most common type of contemporary mobile art. These were analyzed in terms of ‘Access to Works’, ‘Contacting Works with Applications’, and‘Appreciation - Content, Interaction’. Finally, the overall characteristics of mobile art are asfollows: first, the majority of them added mobile to traditional art forms that require materialobjects in art galleries and engaged in linear interaction with them. Second, most mobile art worksmainly express augmented reality, and here, the neo-materiality characteristics that combinereality and virtuality are expressed. In addition, works that require communication in the cyberworld within the app sublimated the audience into the figure of digital nomads in the arena ofrelational power formation. Third, because they use the cutting-edge medium of mobile that ishighly portable, they encompass a wider range of access spaces, contact objects, and interactionsthan any other contemporary art genre. Through these, we were able to see that mobile art isultimately a ‘fusion’ genre that includes all the overall characteristics of contemporary art, such asthe exhibition format of traditional art, the specific space of site-specific art, installation art, andthe interactive properties of new media art. Through this text, we were able to expand the scopeof research on contemporary mobile art and new media art.
