Abstract
This study aims to explore the mechanism by which brand experience in pop-up stores influences consumers' cognitive engagement. With the rapid development of the experience economy, pop-up stores—characterized by temporariness, immersion, and interactivity—have emerged as vital platforms for brands to foster deep consumer experiences. However, existing research has largely focused on emotional or behavioral responses, with limited systematic analysis of the formation path of cognitive engagement. To address this gap, this study adopts a mixed-method approach combining literature analysis and field investigation to identify 21 evaluative elements related to brand experience in pop-up stores. Through exploratory factor analysis, these elements are classified into four core dimensions: brand recognition, sensory experience, spatial creativity, and social interaction. Based on these dimensions, a research model is constructed with four corresponding hypotheses. A questionnaire survey and multiple regression analysis are then conducted with consumers who have visited pop-up stores in the Seongsu-dong area of Seoul. The results reveal that all four dimensions have a significantly positive impact on cognitive engagement, with sensory experience being the most influential, indicating that multi-sensory stimuli play a crucial role in capturing consumer attention and enhancing cognitive processing. Moreover, social interaction and brand recognition also positively affect cognitive engagement, while spatial creativity stimulates cognitive responses through creative spatial design. This study contributes to the theoretical understanding of the relationship between brand experience and cognitive engagement, and offers practical implications for optimizing pop-up store marketing strategies.
