Abstract
This study examines the effect of non-stereotypical gender role advertising according to individual mind-set. This study predicts that the impact of non-stereotypical gender role advertising will be moderated by consumers' mind-set. For people with abstract mind-set, they show a better ad attitude toward a non-stereotypical gender role advertising rather than a stereotypical gender role advertising while for people with concrete mind-set, they show a better ad attitude toward a stereotypical gender role advertising rather than a non-stereotypical gender role advertising. This research has some contributions by providing the basis for future studies and expanding the scope of advertising literature. In addition, this research suggests ad practitioners a few managerial implications. First, representing non-stereotypical gender role in the ads can be a good approach to appeal to a group of specific target customers. Second, ad practitioners need to focus more on target customers with abstract mind-set for an effective ad execution.
