Abstract
This study empirically examines the cause and the solution of the phenomenon in which consumers' attitudes and behaviors toward pro-environmental product do not coincide with each other. Author suggests that consumers might have a positive attitude but lower purchasing intention because they have two-sided sense of value recognition toward pro-environmental products. As a result, it was confirmed that attitude and purchasing intention are not identical only in the case of the two - value recognition group among the four types of value recognition for pro-environmental products. According to the results of this study, it was found that it is important to deliver appropriate social normative messages according to specific situations in order to increase consumers' purchasing intention. All of the groups except the two - sided value perception showed that purchase intention was not influenced by the level of involvement and the normative message type. In other words, pure positive value awareness group always showed high level of purchase intention regardless of involvement or message, while pure negative and indifference group consistently had low purchase intention. On the other hand, consumers who perceive the two sided value of pro-environmental products are more likely to improve their purchasing intention by delivering injunctive messages for high involvement products and Normative messages for low involvement situations.
