이 연구는 공연예술기업, 특히 뮤지컬 기업의 전략적 내부자원에 대한 VRIO분석을 시도한 것이다. 그동안 문화예술기업의 재정적 안정성에 관한 많은 논의가 있어 왔으며, 이 재정적 안정성은 문화예술기업들의 지속성을 보장할 수 있는 매우 중요한 전제가 된다. 문화예술산업, 특히 공연예술의 한 장르인 뮤지컬은 재정적 안정성을 가져올 수 있는 가능성이 가장 높은 예술적 가치와 상업적 가치가 잘 결합된 분야로 주목받고 있다. 따라서 영리기업들이 추구하고 있는 기업전략적 관점에서의 접근이 뮤지컬 기업에 대해서도 필요한 시점이다. 이 연구는 상업적 가치와 예술적 가치를 동시에 보유하고 있는 뮤지컬 기업들이 경쟁우위를 가지기 위해 어떠한 전략을 가지며, 그러한 전략이 경쟁우위를 가지게 하는 원천으로서 어떠한 내부적 자원들이 존재하는가를 연구대상 기업의 최고경영자에 대한 심층인터뷰를 통해 경쟁력 있는 내부자원을 도출하였으며, 이 결과를 VRIO적 관점에서 분석하였다. 분석결과 연구대상 기업은 차별화 전략을 실행하고 있었으며, 그 차별화 전략을 가능하게 한 내부적 자원은 기업의 역사성, 역사성과 결합된 차별화된 콘텐츠, 창작뮤지컬, 핵심역량의 내부화, 전담조직 시스템, 외부협업시스템으로 나타났으며, 이러한 내부자원은 VRIO적 관점에서 경쟁력을 가지고 있다고 분석되었다. 연구결과 뮤지컬 기업의 성공을 위한 내부자원은 역사성을 기반으로 하는 차별화된 콘텐츠와 그러한 자원을 잘 운영할 수 있는 조직적 역량이 매우 중요한 것으로 판단된다.
Abstract
Among the performing arts, musical has been considered as most profitable genre. which has the proportion of over 30 percent in the the industry. Even though there has been debate that we should have the perspective of revenue and profit in the field of performing arts. The reason why that controversy has been prevailed lies in the characteristics of performing arts. People have a tendency to think that performing arts is a public goods. In spite of that controversy, scholars have tried to analyze the performing arts company from the view of the profit organization due to the declining of government subsidy. Thus this study analyzed the internal resources of domestic musical company with VRIO framework. Based on the CEO interview and secondary data published in the media, some meaningful findings were derived. The strategy of the case study company was differential strategy. And the factors to support differential strategy, the company has the internal resources such as historicity, differentiated contents focusing on the creative with high risk, internal cross-functional organization focusing on the core function such as musical production and external experts network such as marketing. Additionally the company has their own casting management system. When evaluating the internal resources with VRIO, the factors has overall advantages.
