Abstract
This study examined the effects of self-monitoring and perceived sense of control on the intention to take insurance. Specifically, high self-monitoring consumers tend to have a higher intention to take insurance. Additionally, it confirmed the mediating role of perceived sense of control in the relationship between self-monitoring and the intention to take insurance. To conduct this study, a survey was administered to 179 insurance consumers in Seoul, and the data were analyzed using SPSS PROCESS macro Model 4. The results revealed that self-monitoring had a significant positive impact on the intention to take insurance. In other words, as self-monitoring increased, the intention to take insurance also increased. Moreover, perceived sense of control mediated the relationship between self-monitoring and the intention to take insurance. Therefore, this study highlights the significance of consumers' personal traits, such as self-monitoring and perceived sense of control, in promoting the enrollment in insurance and inducing individual behavioral changes. Theoretical implications include providing an in-depth understanding of consumer traits and theories related to insurance, while practical implications offer insights to insurance companies in promoting insurance products.
