The current study aims at analyzing speaking activities in Korean and Chinese 3rd-year high school English textbooks in order to explore any differences between them and find a better way to cultivate EFL high school students’ English speaking skills. For this study, two textbooks from each country were chosen, and they were analyzed based on the types and frequency of speaking activities. The findings were as follows: 1) Korean textbooks had a higher number of units and speaking activities than Chinese ones; 2) Korean textbooks included speaking activities mostly in the practice stage of communication, whereas Chinese textbooks mostly in the application stage of communication, and 3) there were some activities both textbooks didn’t contain. to a different degree. Some suggestions are discussed to find a way to improve the students’ speaking proficiency based on the analysis of English textbooks of the two countries.

Abstract
