Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the physical, emotional, social, and religional function of direct and indirect dancing activity from katharsis’s point of view. I used literature study and found as following: As the physical aspect of dancing’ katharsis, It can help people experience various physical change, such as physique development, weight reduction, muscular strengthening and increasing of flexibility, which helps mental stability. In fact, the aspect of dancing activity means the change of body. So the gladness or exultation through these process can be understood as psychological factor. This also means that physical function and psychological function can't be understood as being divided into two part. As the social aspect of dancing’ katharsis, it purifies primitive and antisocial tendency, and gets rid of frustration. As the emotional aspect of dancing’ catharsis, it gets rid of strain and anxiety that comes from psychological reason through the urban life. Equability and stability of mind are the important function of katharsis too. For example, the refreshment of physical activity and relaxing of dance inspection is the proof of the katharsis’s function. The final effect of these katharsis is to infuse people with enthusiasm for life. As the important role of social stability, it can be the katharsis of negative factor, such as incongruity, antagonism and jealousy between classes or individuals. as like the katharsis’ etymology which means pleasure through excretion, dance activity and inspection are selected as a way th solve various physical and psychological stress of human society and communal life. The last aspect of dancing’ katharsis, religion is as following: Through the dance for supernatural god or mysterious human experience, people can be absorbed and get religious ecstasy, which is superior to freedom of boy. Through these activity, they have special experience different from ordinary life. By these experience, they try to solve all unreliable problem and anxiety for the future. In other words, it is trial, defending on god or magic power, to make peacefulness of mind, body and life. In conclusion, the function of katharsis are as following: They help have satisfaction for life and contribute harmonious life by purifying people’s motion.
