Abstract

This study examined how caregivers perceive the human rights of older adults, focusing on differences based on their working environments and institutional settings within Korea’s expanding Long-Term Care Insurance system. Q methodology was applied to analyze caregivers working in three types of long-term care services: home-visit care (n = 20), adult day care (n = 19), and long-term care facilities (n = 21). The results identified three perception types among home-visit caregivers, three among day-care caregivers, and two among facility-based caregivers. Although all groups agreed on the importance of respecting older adults’ rights and recognized the need for human rights education, their approaches and levels of practice differed according to service environment and workplace characteristics. These findings indicate that human rights education tailored to each type of care setting may help shape and strengthen caregivers’ perceptions of elderly rights, and they provide basic evidence for improving future human rights education in long-term care services.
