중용에 대한 몇 가지 비교철학적 관점

Abstract

Modern life seems to run counter to the spirit of the Doctrine of theMean. The theory of virtues disappears from the modern life and themotto of the life is ’More is better’ or ’Of good things more are better’seeking into extreme and radical approaches. I will compare the methodto approach to the Mean in what way there are differences betweenEast and West through the classical theory of the Doctrine. Mydiscussion is in part historical and in part theoretical, but I shallunderline the principal questions how the Chinese and Greek traditionsrepresent a Mean. By what concepts do they illuminate notions ofMean? I will discuss whether the mean is a central point in the meaning of Aristotelian philosophy or a sufficiency in the meaning of the Orientalphilosophy and about the objectives and the subjects of the Mean.
