Abstract

This research is on the construction and location of the royal graveyards in theDobong-gu district, which enables readers to understand the identity of theDobong-gu district in the Choson Dynasty, and the concrete construction backgroundof the royal graveyards in this district. Furthermore, readers can access the royalculture of the early Choson Dynasty. First, the royal graveyards in the Dobong-gu district are assumed to be constructedsince the mid-15th century. Second, topographical importance of the Dobongmountain was the main factor of accumulated construction of the royal graveyards. /in the Dobong-gu district. The Dobong mountain was regarded as the inner streamof the main mountain of the capital, and had beautiful and steep shape which madeitself a good place to construct family graveyard. Third, close relationships amongthe member of the royal family had provided the foundation of the construction. Following their family relations, the royal graveyards had constructed closelyneighbored on each other. With later researches on the other families’ graveyards in the Dobong-gu district,the research can help to product historical and cultural contents of the Dobong-gudistrict.
