본 연구는 근대기에 유럽에서 발달한 도자 전사기법傳寫技法이 일본으로 전래하여 활용되는 과정을 고찰하였다 도자 전사기법은 산업혁명을 통해 대량생산이 가능해진 유럽에서 처음 상용화하였으며 이는 도자기의 장식성과 생산성을 크게 향상시켰다 일본은 메이지 시대 이후 서구의 전사기법을 적극 수용하여 자국의 도자산업에 도입하였으며 이를 통해 대량생산 체계를 확립하고 , 수출산업으로 발전시켰다. 특히 일본의 전사도자는 단순한 생활용품을 넘어 문명개화와 제국주의적 이념을 전파하는 매 , 체로서 중요한 역할을 수행하였다 일본 정부는 문명개화 정책의 일환으로 전사기법을 활용한 도자를 대중적으로 보급하여 계몽주의적 도상을 전파하였으며 나아가 군국주의와 제국주의를 선전 , 하기 위한 도상 제작에도 이를 적극 활용하였다 이에 관한 예시로는 이국풍경과 근대식 문물 등의 계몽주의적 도상과 천황 황실 보국 및 욱일기 등의 제국주의적 도상이 주목된다 이에 본 연구에서는 도자 전사기법이 일본으로 유입되어 발전하는 과정을 살펴보고 일본 전사도자에 나타난 근대적 도상을 통해 사회 문화적 역할을 조명한다.
Abstract
This paper examines the process by which transferware techniques, which developed in Europe during the modern era, were introduced and utilized in Japan. The transferware technique was first commercialized in Europe during the Industrial Revolution, enabling mass production and significantly enhancing the decorative quality and productivity of ceramics. Following the Meiji era, Japan actively adopted Western transferware techniques, incorporating them into its own ceramic industry. This led to the establishment of a mass production system and the development of ceramics as an export industry. In particular, Japanese transferware played a significant role not only as everyday items but also as a medium for disseminating the ideologies of civilization and enlightenment as well as imperialism. As part of its civilization and enlightenment policy, the Japanese government widely distributed porcelains utilized transferware techniques to propagate enlightenment-themed iconography. Furthermore, such techniques were actively employed in creating designs aimed at promoting militarism and imperialism. Notable examples include enlightenment-themed imagery such as exotic landscapes and modernized artifacts, as well as imperialist imagery such as Emperor of Japan, the imperial family, patriotic motifs, and the Rising Sun flag. This study explores the development of transferware techniques in Japan and highlights the sociocultural roles of modern iconography found in Japanese transferware porcelains.
