이 글의 초점은 2015년 11월 13일 파리에서 일어난 테러사건을 계기로 드러난 종교적 극단주의 시대의 기독교와 이슬람의 갈등이다. 최근 종교갈등이 동기로 자리잡은각종 테러의 발생은 지구촌에서 탈냉전시대가 전개되기 시작했던 1993년 ‘문명충돌’과‘신냉전’을 예상한 헌팅턴과 위르겐스마이어의 인식이 옳았음을 드러낸다. 이로부터 필자는 우선 II장에서는 근본주의 개념의 기독교적 기원과 다양한 의미를 살피면서 IS(이슬람국가) 같은 테러 집단이 예증하는 글로벌 근본주의의 확산 현상에 주목하였다. III장에서는 지구촌에서 반서구적/반이스라엘적 테러가 글로벌 사회문제로 부상하였다는 전제아래, 하버마스가 일찍이 주목한 이른바 ‘유럽 속의 이슬람’ 문제가 집약적으로 드러난2015년 파리테러사건에 주목하였다. 필자는 이 파리테러사건의 원인으로서 무슬림의인지적 부조화, 프랑스의 동화정책과 문화전쟁, 아브라함 종교(유대교, 기독교, 이슬람) 의 선민사상, 이슬람 근본주의의 독특성 등을 제시하였다. 필자는 이번 파리테러사건을계기로 드러난 기독교와 이슬람의 갈등을 염두에 두고서 ‘한국 속의 이슬람’ 문제를 스쿠크 입법 논쟁, 이슬람 공포증의 확산, 전북 익산 할랄산업 육성정책 논란, 2007년아프가니스탄 인질사건 등의 측면에서 짚어 본 다음 결론으로서 정부 내 종교 전문연구자들의 실무 대책 기구를 설립하여 운용할 것을 제안하였다.
Abstract
The present paper focuses on the conflict between Christianity and Islam as exhibited in the 2015 Paris Terror Attacks by religious extremists. The recent terror incidents motivated by religious opposition appear to be manifestations of Huntington’s “Clash of Civilizations” and Jürgensmeyer’s “New Cold War.” Therefore in chapter II, I examined the Christian origin of fundamentalism as well as the appearance and expansion of global fundamentalism exemplified by the so-called, ‘Islamic State.’ Subsequently in chapter III—presuming that anti-Western or anti-Israelite terrors are well established as a global social problem—I explored the significance of the 2015 Paris Terror Attacks with ideas such as “Post-Secular Society” by Habermas, who emphasized the issue of “Islam in Europe,” as well as Huntington’s “Clash of Civilizations” and Jürgensmeyer’s “New Cold War.” I tried to provide various interrelated reasons for the Paris Attacks: cognitive dissonance of young Muslims, assimilation policy and culture war in France, the belief of “chosenness” in Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the particularity of Islam fundamentalism, etc. Finally, I discuss the issue of “Islam in Korea” concerning the Sukuk law, Islamophobia, the Halal industry, the 2007 Afghanistan incident, and more to arrive at the conclusion that calls for an establishment of a special governmental committee consisting of various experts in religion, culture and politics.
