왜 ‘주 앞에서 큰 자(눅 1:15)’가 ‘하나님의 나라에서 가장 작은 자(눅 7:28)’가 되었는가? - 누가복음에 나타난 세례 요한과 예수 그리스도의 역사신학적인 관계에 관하여

초록

아직도 세례 요한을 종교적인 메시아로 고백하는 집단이 존재하는 역사적인 사실로부터 그를 단지 예수 그리스도의 길을 예비하는 선구자로 정의하는 신약성서의 기록은 그 정당성이 상실된다. 특히 누가복음 1:15과 7:28 사이에 존재하는 신학적인 모순은 이런 논거를 강화시킨다. 즉 주 앞에서 큰 자의 의미는 하나님의 나라에서도 큰 자가 되기 때문에 7:28의 진술은 논리적인 설명이 요구된다. 연구자의 견해에 다르면 두 메시아사상의 틀을 벗어나 한 메시아 예수 그리스도를 고백하는 누가 공동체의 신학은 세례 요한을 평가 절하시켜야 할 교회정치적인 필요성에 노출된다. 그래서 세례 요한을 하나님의 나라에서 가장 작은 자로 규정하는 7:28의 진술은 순수한 신학적인 평가가 될 수 없다. 초기 하나님 나라 운동의 역사적 궤적을 올바르게 추적하고 초기 기독교 신앙의 역사를 역사적인 사실에 부합되게 정립하기 위하여 초기 기독교의 종교지도를 살펴야 할 필요성이 있다. 즉 세례 요한은 예수 그리스도와 함께 민중들로부터 두 메시아로 추앙받았던 지도자에 해당한다. 이것이 역사적인 사실이다.

Abstract

In fact, a small group confessing belief in John the baptizer as a religious Messiah existed, and still exists. From this, the description of Synoptic Gospels to define the baptizer John as forerunner of Jesus Christ could be suspected with no reasonable theological legitimacy. This contention is specially strengthened through the discrepancy of logical connection between Luke 1:15 and 7:28. Namely, simply because ‘the great in the sight of the Lord(Jahwe)’ refers to ‘the great in the kingdom of God,’ the declaration of 7:28 requires a reasonable interpretation. In my analysis, since the theology of the Lukan community attached to the confession of one Messiah Jesus Christ, the contemporary ideal of expectation of two Messiahs was exposed to a church-political necessity to underestimate the baptizer John. Therefore, the sketch in Lk 7:28 to present John as the smallest in the Kingdom of God could not be a genuine theological evaluation. In order to trace back the historical trajectory of the Kingdom movement in the 1st century and to formulate the history of early Christian church in continuity with the real fact, we need to examine again closely the religious map of early Christianity. In short, the baptizer John together with Jesus Christ belonged to the great mentor who had been respected as Messiah by the contemporary Jewish crowd. That is the undeniable historical fact.
