창세기 19장의 '소돔의 죄'에 관한 성서와 유대문헌의 수용사 연구 : 비난적 태도와 공격적 활용

이 논문은 창세기 19장의 ‘소돔의 죄’에 관한 구약과 신약, 유대문헌의 수용사를 연구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 소돔의 죄는 이 문헌들에서 모두 "심판 대상 이미지"를 담은 "비난 언어"로 사용된다. 이 문헌들 어디서도 창세기 19장의 역사적 소돔의 죄악을 조사하려는 의도는 보이지 않으며, 소돔의 죄들은 대체로 그 문헌들이 집필된 동시대 사회의 죄악들이다. 특히 소돔에 관한 창세기 미드라시는 상상력을 동원해서, 창세기에 없는 이야기들을 통해 자신들의 체제를 위협하고 규범을 어기는, 그들이 증오하는 것들을 소돔의 죄라고 규정한다. 즉, 후대문헌에서 소돔은 멸망 받아 마땅한 특정한 죄를 묘사하는 용어가 아니라, 반대로 심판받아 마땅한 적대자와 동일시하기 위해 사용된 욕설 언어다. 따라서 유대문헌에서 소돔을 서술하는 폭력과 탐욕, 비윤리적 모습은 고대의 잔인함과 폭력성, 힘의 논리, 약자에 대한 폭력과 착취 그리고 그 가운데 행한 음란과 같은 그 시대의 주제성 안에서 발생한다. 이때 남색에 대한 지적은 특정 남색에 포용적인 그리스 로마 종교와 문화로 유대문화가 도전을 받을 때 비판적으로 언급된다.
Abstract
The Sin of Sodom in the Old and New Testament as well as other Jewish texts is generally used as a "blame language" containing "images of judgment". When these texts employ the term Sodom, there is no intention to investigate the sins of historical Sodom. Their arguments actually never were based on Genesis 19, and when they are called the sins of Sodom, these are largely the sins of the contemporary society where the interpreters are living. After all, they use their imaginations of Sodom in order to define what they hate, what is breaking their norms. Sodom's sin was largely the violence and exploitation of the weak under the logic of power, and the lewdness among them. However, the problem of lewdness is not specified by homosexuality, unless Jewish society is endangered by the homosexual practice by the Gentile society.
