호스피스 자원봉사자가 인식한 의사소통 실천 경험에 대한 탐색적 연구

본 연구의 목적은 호스피스 자원봉사자가 인식한 대상자간의 의사소통 실천 경험을 탐색함으로써 이들의 전문성 강화 및 현장 적용 가능한 지침 개발의 근거를 마련하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 '호스피스 자원봉사자와 대상자간의 의사소통 실천 경험은 어떠하며, 그 의미는 무엇인가?라는 연구문제를 가지고 초점집단 인터뷰로 현상학적 탐색 연구를 진행하였다. 연구참여자는 의도적 표집방법을 적용하여 호스피스 자원봉사자 20명을 7그룹으로 구성하여 자료를 탐색하였다. 연구결과, 호스피스 자원봉사자들과 대상자간의 의사소통 실천 경험은 시간성, 관계성, 삶의 완성 유형으로 3가지 범주로 도출되었다. 이를 구체적으로 살펴보면, 첫째, <시간성>으로는 호스피스 병동의 시간으로 의사소통이 이루어지고 있었으며 탐색하기, 관계 맺기, 삶의 완성 돕기로 도출되었다. 둘째, <관계성>으로는 환자 당사자와 가족에 대한 의사소통의 경험이 다르게 나타났으며, 환자에게는 당사자의 삶 정리해 주기, 가족에게는 환자의 죽음이 존엄하게 되도록 안내하는 유형으로 의사소통이 경험되고 있었다. 셋째, <삶의 완성 유형>으로는 좋은 삶, 외로운 삶, 안타까운 삶이 존재하며, 이에 대한 의사소통의 경험도 다름이 확인되었다. 이에 본 연구의 의의는 호스피스 자원봉사자들의 의사소통 실천 경험에 초점을 맞추었으며 이는 의사소통 관련 실천 지침의 근거자료가 되었다는 데에 있다. 이를 기반으로 호스피스 자원봉사자 활동의 전문성 강화 및 인생의 마지막 친구로서 함께 나누는 의사소통 실천 기법에 대한 논의가 확대되길 기대한다.
Abstract
This study aims to explore the practical experiences of communication with subjects, which hospice volunteers perceived, and to lay the foundation for strengthening their professionalism and developing a guideline applicable to the field. To this end, a phenomenological exploratory study was conducted with a focus group interview asking the research question: 'what is the communication experience between hospice volunteers and subjects, and what does it mean? The participants of the study was made up of 7 groups of 20 hospice volunteers through purposive sampling in order to search data. The findings of the study showed that communication experiences between hospice volunteers and subjects was divided into three categories: temporality, relationship, and completion of life. Specifically, first, when it comes to <Temporality>, communication was made during the hours in a hospice ward, and it was found to be exploring, establishing relationships, and helping to complete life. Second, <Relationship> showed the different communication experiences between patients and their families. Third, <Completion of life> was found to have a good life, a lonely life, and a sad life, and the experiences of communication about them were also different. Therefore, this study is meaningful in that it focused on the communication experiences of hospice volunteers and provided the basis for practical communication guidelines according to care types. Based on this, it is hoped that there will be further discussion on how to strengthen the professionalism of hospice volunteer activities, as well as the practical communication techniques to be shared as the last friend in life.
