본 연구는 TRE(Tension & Trauma Release Exercises)의 신경생리학적 회복 메커니즘과 성경 본문, 특히 왕상 18-19장의 엘리야 회복 서사를 통합 분석함으로써, 목회상담에 적용 가능한 ‘체화된 회복’(體化된 回復, Embodied Healing) 모델을 제안하는 데 목적이 있다. 현대 외상 연구는 외상이 언어 기억보다 먼저 신체 감각과 자율신경계의 패턴 속에 저장된다는 사실을 강조해 왔으며, 베셀 반 데어 콜크와 스티븐 포지스의 연구는 신경계의 안정(Regulation) 회복이 정서, 관계, 영성 기능을 재통합하는 핵심 과정임을 밝혔다. TRE는 신경성 진동(Neurogenic Tremor)을 통해 과각성된 교감신경계를 이완시키고, 생리적 안정과 감정 조절을 촉진하는 신체 기반 회복 접근이다. 본 연구는 엘리야의 회복 과정이 TRE의 회복 구조와 평행성을 가진다는 점을 규명하였다. 이는 성경이 이미 몸을 회복의 현장으로 제시하고 있음을 보여준다. 본 연구는 목회상담에서 안전, 신경계 조절, 신체 감각(Interoception)과 공동체적 조절(Co-Regulation)을 통합한 영성 돌봄 모델을 제안한다. 몸은 영성의 부속물이 아닌 하나님이 회복을 시작하시는 중심 자리이며, TRE는 이러한 신학적 통찰을 현대적 신경생리학 언어로 해석할 수 있는 유용한 도구이다.
Abstract
This study aims to propose an ‘Embodied Healing’ model applicable to pastoral counseling by integrating the neurophysiological mechanisms of recovery in TRE (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) with the biblical account of Elijah’s restoration in 1 Kings 18-19. Contemporary trauma research emphasizes that trauma is encoded primarily in bodily sensations and autonomic nervous system patterns rather than in verbal memory. The work of Bessel van der Kolk and Stephen Porges has demonstrated that restoring autonomic and neurological regulation constitutes a central process for the reintegration of emotional, relational, and spiritual functioning. TRE, through the induction of neurogenic tremors, is a body-centered therapeutic modality that facilitates the down-regulation of sympathetic over-arousal, promoting physiological stabilization and emotional regulation. This study demonstrates a structural parallelism between the stages of Elijah’s recovery and the recovery sequence identified in TRE, suggesting that the biblical narrative already presents the body as a primary locus of divine healing. Accordingly, this research proposes a spiritual care model for pastoral counseling that integrates safety, neurological regulation, interoceptive awareness, and communal co-regulation. The body is not peripheral to spiritual formation but is the central locus where God initiates healing, and TRE provides a contemporary neurophysiological framework through which this theological insight can be interpreted.
