Abstract
This paper critically analyzes the identity and political behavior of South Korean extreme right-wing Protestant groups that gained prominence during the 2024-25 martial law and presidential impeachment crisis from a Christian social ethics perspective. It deeply explores the theological origins, ideological structures, and social proliferation processes of the exterminationist politics of hatred propagated by these groups, while examining how they threaten democracy, human rights, and the publicness of civil society. By applying Moishe Postone’s theory of modern antisemitism, this paper demonstrates that the exterminationism of extreme right- wing Protestantism bears structural similarities to Nazi antisemitism that led to the Holocaust. In conclusion, this paper proposes overcoming this dangerous exterminationism through the recovery of public theology that respects inalienable human rights and human dignity, and the expansion of democratic publicness to restore authentic Christian values.
