Abstract

The 4th Lausanne Congress, held in Incheon, South Ko rea, had heated public opinion for and against it even before the convention opened. And now that the competition is over, there are still public opinions on whether the Seoul Declaration is good or bad. How should the Seoul Declaration be properly evaluated biblically? In this study, we first look at what the Seoul Declaration says, and then compare the Seoul Declaration with four advance papers published by three scholars ahead of the 3rd Lausanne Congress in Cape Town in 2010 to see whether progress toward biblical values has been made. A comparative analysis was conducted. As a result, it was discovered that, unlike the advance papers, which used a lot of fairly biblical and firm expressions, the Seoul Declaration was full of ambiguous expressions out of consideration for homosexuals and avoided clear and firm biblical statements. Another serious problem was that the Seoul Declaration did not mention a single word about the anti-discrimination law, which persistently attempts to define churches as illegal organizations. As was the case in the advance papers and the Cape Town Declaration discussed earlier, the Seoul Declaration is completely silent on this issue. Considering that Korea, where the 4th Lausanne Congress is being held, is currently in a fierce battle with the issue of comprehensive anti-discrimination law, this can be said to be a dereliction of duty.
