Abstract
This study aims to provide a missiological analysis of the accelerating persecution of Christians in the Sahel region, par ticularly in Burkina Faso, a nation emblematic of the emergent “Coup Belt” geopolitical landscape. The relentless proliferation of Islamic extremist armed groups has dramatically exacerbat ed inter-religious conflict within these governance-deficient states, subjecting indigenous Christian communities to a severe dichotomy of tension-the fundamental imperative for physical survival juxtaposed with the commitment to spiritual fidelity(faith). In this highly volatile context, missionaries have primarily concentrated on fortifying the community’s spiritual identity through comprehensive direct aid, conflict mediation, fervent Gospel proclamation, and cultivating a profound theology of martyria (martyrdom faith). While the international commu nity and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have at tempted humanitarian interventions, their sustainability and efficacy are significantly constrained by pervasive political fra gility and escalating security threats. Consequently, this research proposes critical new missio logical paradigms for strategic engagement: the immense po tential of Diaspora Missions, the robust implementation of a Theology of Shalom as a comprehensive mission strategy, and concrete avenues for South Korean Church Solidarity. Diaspora communities are identified not merely as recipients of aid but as strategic agents for the diffusion and localization of the Gospel. The Shalom mission is framed as an commitment to embody the ontological essence of the Gospel-holistic peace and jus tice-even amidst systemic violence and conflict. Furthermore, the South Korean Church bears the ecclesial responsibility to demonstrate solidarity with the persecuted Church through sustained intercessory prayer, material support, and the pro vision of human resources, collectively affirming the vitality and enduring power of the Gospel despite protracted suffering. Ultimately, this study endeavors to recalibrate the direc tional trajectory of mission within this multifaceted crisis, of fering strategic and missio-theological recommendations for a Gospel ministry that is both resilient and sustainably relevant in the face of profound adversity.
