참요는 예언적 의미를 내포한 정치적 노래이다. 이러한 참요는 주로 여론을 조작하거나 천명(天命) 및 사회적 혼란의 조짐을 암시하는 목적으로 활용되었는데, 정치적 목적과 문화적 맥락이 결합된 특수한 문학 형식으로서 깊이 연구될 필요가 있다. 참요는 단형의 구조에 의미를 압축적으로 표현하는 문학 형식으로, 구조적 형식과 수사적 기법을 통해 문체적 특성을 다각적으로 전달한다. 중국에서는 관련 연구가 풍부하나, 한국에서는 제한적이며 특히 문체적 측면의 연구가 미흡한 실정이다. 본 연구는 한중 양국의 흥망론 참요를 중심으로 문체적 특성을 비교 분석하며, 중국의 동 주제 참요를 함께 검토하며 한국 참요의 가치의 재조명에 기여하고자 한다.
Abstract
As a distinct form of political discourse, prophetic ballads (chenyao,讖謠) employ the structure of popular children’s songs or folk ballads to convey metaphorical and prophetic meanings. Often used to manipulate public opinion or imply divine mandate and social upheaval, these ballads represent a unique literary genre blending political intent with cultural context. Their function and underlying significance warrant further systematic study. Characterized by concise phrasing and highly condensed expression, prophetic ballads utilize refined rhetorical techniques to demonstrate their literary value. While Chinese scholarship has produced extensive research on chenyao, Korean studies in this field remain limited, particularly regarding stylistic features. This study focuses on a comparative analysis of Chinese and Korean prophetic ballads centered on the theme of rise and fall of dynasties. By examining their stylistic differences and referencing Chinese counterparts, it aims to reassess the unique significance of Korean prophetic ballads.
