대학에서의 국제 원격 화상강의 사례 연구 - 국제 문화이해 인식 및 참여적 수업전략을 중심으로 -

이 연구는 한‧일간 국제 원격 화상교육을 실시하고 참여한 학습자 및 교수자들의 반응을 분석하여 국제 원격 화상강의의 장․단점과 국제 문화이해 인식 수준을 파악하고 효과적인 국제 원격 화상강의의 참여적 수업전략을 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 부산에 위치한 D대학의 유아교육과 학생 23명, 부산의 D대학 교수 1인, 일본의 G대학 교수 1인, 일본의 J대학 교수 1인, 경기도의 A대학 교수 1인이 이 연구에 참여하였다. 연구도구는 국제 원격 화상강의 환경, 설문지, 인터뷰, 채팅로그 분석을 통한 참여관찰을 사용하였으며, 국제 화상강의를 위한 시스템 설치 준비, 원격강의를 위한 수업 설계, 화상시스템 교육 및 테스트과정을 거쳐 영어로 진행하는 2회의 원격 화상강의 수업이 실시되었다. 연구결과 학습자들이 인식한 국제 원격 화상강의의 장점으로는 국제화 마인드향상, 전공지식의 습득 및 심화, 영어자신감 향상 등으로 나타났다. 단점 및 개선점으로는 영어의사소통의 어려움, 수업방식의 생소함, 오디오 및 네트워크의 불안정성이 지적되었다. 수업에 참여한 학습자들은 국제문화이해에 대한 인식이 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 원격강의에 대한 유용성, 흥미도, 수업 지속성에 높은 만족을 보였으며 학습내용의 이해도에서도 높은 점수를 나타냈다. 효과적인 국제 원격 화상강의 참여적 수업전략으로 첫째, 화상강의 테크놀로지의 지원이나 교수자의 강의 전문성 뿐만 아니라 수업 전에 학습자 참여를 촉진하는 수업설계 및 상호작용적인 수업 구성이 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 원격지 강의자, 현지 수업설계자, 온라인 촉진자로 구분되는 원격지와 현지 교수자들의 역할 분담을 통한 수업전략이 제안되었다. 셋째, 화상강의와 함께 온라인 채팅을 통한 학생들의 적극적인 수업 참여 및 몰입 증진 전략이 도출되었다.
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of international distance lectures, investigate the level of global culture awareness, and make suggestions for effective participatory instructional strategies using an international synchronous video lecture system. For the purposes of this study, twenty three university students of early-childhood education department and four instructors (two distance lecturers, a class designer, and a online facilitator) were participated in two classes on December, 2010. Two distant lecturers in Japan taught each class for one hour and half using a video lecture system. Students and instructors used a headset and a web camera each other and they spoke in English in class. The classes were consisted of four instructional phases (Preparation, Introduction, Lecturing & Promoting participation, and Q/A). As the result, learners who attended the classes showed high satisfaction in the usefulness, interest and continuity of distance lectures, and their understanding of lecture contents and the perceived attitude of global cultural awareness also appeared high. Moreover, the participating instructors showed high interest in international distance lectures, and perceived the importance of instructional design promoting learners’ participation for effective distance lectures. The results of this study have implications as follows. First, a core factor of success in teaching through a international distance video lecture is instructional design rather than the video lecture system or the instructor’s specialty in the contents of teaching. Second, international distance video lectures may be usable as alternatives to English lectures that are performed at universities for enhancing the students’ global competence. Lastly, online chatting is a useful supporting tool to promote students' participation in distance video lecture processes.
