온라인 국제교류 협력학습 성과 및 운영 방안에 대한 탐색적 연구

최근 온라인 국제교류 협력학습에 대한 관심과 학교 현장에서의 적용 사례가 증가하고 있으며, 온라인 국제교류 협력학습에 대한 정책적 지원과 효과적인 운영 방안 마련의 요구가 높아지고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 현장의 요구에 따라 온라인 국제교류 협력학습의 실제적 교육 효과를 확인하고 운영 및 진행상의 어려움과 문제점을 분석하여 온라인 국제교류 협력학습을 효과적이고 지속적인 활동으로 정착시키기 위한 운영 방안을 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 온라인 국제교류 협력학습 시범학교로 선정된 7개 초등학교와 2개 중학교의 학생 238명과 교사 17명을 대상으로 연구를 진행하였다. 연구자료는 교사 및 학생 대상의 자유기술형 설문과 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 통해 수집하였으며, 온라인 국제교류 협력학습의 성과, 상대국과의 파트너 맺기와 운영, 학습활동, 첨단정보통신기술을 활용한 학습 환경으로 범주화하여 질적 분석하였다. 연구결과, 타문화 및 우리 문화의 이해, 세계시민 양성, 영어 학습 동기 및 의사소통능력 향상을 비롯하여 창의성, ICT 활용 능력, 협동심 등 21세기 학습자 역량 향상의 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 온라인 국제교류 협력학습의 운영과 진행상에 파트너 맺기, 상대국 학교와의 학사 일정과 주제 조율, 학생들 간의 영어 실력 수준 차이, 교수-학습 모형의 부재, 시스템 품질 측면에서 어려움과 문제점이 발견되었다. 이러한 연구의 결과를 토대로 온라인 국제교류 협력학습의 운영 방안을 제시하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to validate the educational outcomes of tele-collaborative international learning exchanges and to provide implementation strategies for their management which would make them more applicable and durable in the actual field in the Republic of Korea. Seven elementary schools and two middle schools that had previously run tele-collaborative international learning exchange programs participated in this study. Qualitative data was collected through surveys of students and teachers as well as focus group interviews. The conceptual components of tele-collaborative international learning exchanges were organized into four categories: outcomes, partnership and management, learning activities, and learning environments using information and communication technology. The analysis showed that tele-collaborative international learning exchanges helped to develop students' intercultural understanding, global citizenship, motivation to learn English, and other 21st century fundamental competencies such as communication skills, ICT capability, teamwork skills, etc. On the other hand, several difficulties and problems were identified during its implementation. These include difficulty in searching for partner schools, difficulty in determining the learning topics and academic schedules of partner schools, differences in English competency among participating students, deficiencies in appropriate teaching and learning models, and the quality of information infrastructure. Based on these findings, implementation strategies for tele-collaborative international learning exchanges were suggested.
