This study aims to investigate the syntactic and semantic characteristic of ‘-니까’. I compared ‘-니까’ with ‘-니’ and ‘-아서’ in order to achieve this purpose, because ‘-니까’ is similar in meaning to ‘-아서’ and in the form to ‘-니’. The semantic function of ‘-니까’ can be understood as ‘presupposition which is the basis of the succeeding clause in the meaning’. The syntactic characteristics of ‘-니까’ are as follows: (a) there is no constraints for the tense morpheme is attached, (b) there is no specific constraints for sentence final ending in the succeeding clause. These syntactic characteristics can be explained by the meaning that is investigated in this study.
Abstract
