Abstract

Shin Dongmun poetry presents the poetic achievements vividly reproducing the situation of the time under the topography of the postwar period. This is an example of a brilliantly overcoming the limitations of the time of war. The deep search for human beings trapped in marginal situations, or presenting an authentic situation based on experience, shows another value of postwar poetry. However, compared with this significance, there is not enough research on Shin Dongmun poetry in modern current affairs. This paper focuses on the characteristics of spatiality appearing to complement and expand the study on Shin Dongmun poetry. And I want to pay attention to Shin Dongmun as a more important poet in the postwar history. For a new discussion, I pay attention to the poetic space and the problems of phobia that appear in the poem. The problem of 'poetic space' is a very important way of approaching the essence of poetry. Shin Dongmun poetry represents the existential attitude of human beings in the historical space of 'war'. Here the time is stopped, and the space is foreseen. The poetic space that appears in Shin Dongmun poetry is a place to show collective and historical tragedies, and a place to ask about the problem of existence. What is important is this poetry shows the loss of identity, the spatiality of inhumanity. It portrays extreme conflicts that develop into death rather than life, death, non-places, and human slaughter, not anthropological coexistence. This paper will analyze the spatial characteristics of Shin Dongmun poetry as a horizontal geometrical space, and discuss it through the language of phobia and the problem of materialized flesh in his poem. The horizontal space of Shin Dongmun poetry structures the existence attitude of the human being in the limit situation. The objectified body in his poems is associated with this spatiality, which can be read as a phobic metaphor for death.
